Bodybuilding can represent very different experiences for different people. For some who just do relatively little and achieve very good results, it can be a most enjoyable and rewarding experience. But many others work just as hard and are just, or even more dedicated but never see any significant improvement or get any closer to building the kind of bodies they desire. For these people, it can be a really depressing activity. These latter set of people are called the hardgainers.
Hardgainers are what they are, primarily because their body makeup differs greatly from that of most other people. The recovery rate of their muscle between workouts is really low; their muscles need much longer periods of rest and inactivity between exercises to be completely recovered and replenished. Many times, they are not even aware of this, resuming, sometimes, very intense workouts with only partially rested muscles which in the long run is a significant drawback in their quest for rapid muscle growth. Their bodies are then more likely to be given to injury and weakness.
A hardgainer must put much greater effort in finding an appropriate workout regimen for his peculiar body to allow for increase in muscle mass. Such a program would involve less time in the gym and longer rest periods between exercises for proper rest and recovery of muscles.

Other than what we have discussed so far, two very important aspects of bodybuilding cannot be overlooked. These are diet and sleep. Having small, healthy snacks between main meals throughout the day is beneficial. A protein shake every now and then would also help to stimulate proper muscle development.
